On a trip to South Africa in 2009, I found myself overwhelmed by the enormity of inspiration this beautiful country has to offer. Rich in food gastronomy, design & out of this world craftsmanship. Here are a few of my favourite discoveries.
MELISSA’S FOOD SHOP | Situated in one of Cape Town’s renowned coastal suburbs Blouberg, this beautiful store/cafe, Melissa’s Food Shop is enriched with gourmet conserves, garlic and chilli infused olive oils, fluffy meringues and mouth watering sweet delights…the list goes on! One of the many things that impressed me was the attention to detail and the quality of their products; glass jars in various sizes, linen towels, millet stalk food covers and ceramic homewares are a few their homewares on offer.

WONKI WARE DI MARSHALL POTTERY | Nestled in a little town on the Garden Route in George, this cute little studio boasts uniqueness. Organic and somewhat imperfect, each piece of pottery is handmade, adding to its charm. Versatile and hard wearing, these products are dishwasher, oven and microwave proof. The glazed dinnerware has prints embossed from lace in classic whites & soft greys to jewelled colours of turquoise and lilac. I was lucky enough to meet the famous potter herself Di Marshall on my trip. You could see the passion and excitement in what she does, and rightly so. Handmade at its best!
